MANUEL ROQUE
bang bang (excerpt)
Choreographer: Manuel Roque
Dancers : Manuel Roque and Nils Levazeux
Created in 2017, bang bang first established itself on the contemporary scene as a solo work, receiving the Best Choreographic Work Award from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec as well as the Performer Award at the Prix de la Danse de Montréal. In 2024, the desire to pass this score on to a younger performer transformed the piece: it became a version for two dancers, now a shared journey.
bang bang is a challenge. Somewhere between a game of hopscotch and an athletic feat, two performers engage in repeated jumps and rhythmic patterns demanding exceptional concentration and physical commitment. Beneath this precise rigour the mechanics gradually reveal combativeness, endurance, and also the vulnerabilities of the performer as a human being. Here, the discipline of execution meets sweat.
This duet version introduces the idea of going through the ordeal together—combining each performer’s strengths and weaknesses.
