Thanks to the financial support of the Government of Quebec and the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut, the cultural mediation project Mouvement de passage FASS allowed dance to reach seniors who were losing their independence, living with illness or nearing the end of their lives.
Bringing together ten artists from the Laurentians and five trainers with extensive experience in this type of approach, the project took the form of individual “performances” given throughout each facility. During these encounters, a musician and one or more dancers moved from room to room to offer a personalized performance to the residents, in the privacy of their space. Held in various accommodation facilities in the region, these encounters were an opportunity for exceptional human contact. The sense of wonder and cheer was evident in the recipients, who clearly expressed their gratitude.
As part of the Grand Prix de la culture des Laurentides, the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut won the Prix Municipalité for the Mouvement de passage FASS project, which reaches out to vulnerable people and breaks through their isolation in a direct way.
Initiated in the spring of 2022, Mouvement de passage FASS has been renewed by the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut for the years 2023 and 2024.
Following the success of this project, other municipalities have invited Mouvement de passage FASS to visit their region, including the MRC Antoine-Labelle in 2023 and MRC des Laurentides in 2024 where “performances” took place.
In 2024, thanks to the support of the Minister Responsible for Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, the MRC of Rivière-du-Nord also welcomed the project on its territory and new visits took place to the MRC Antoine-Labelle.
We are very proud that Mouvement de passage FASS was deployed across the four MRCs in the Laurentian region over the past year.
