And now, music. Orchestre Métropolitain, whose annual appearance in Saint-Sauveur is an established tradition, closes the 2019 Festival on a high note. Under the direction of its esteemed conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the OM offers us a program whose highlight is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a repertory favourite in which the composer addresses one of his pet themes, “fatum”: the idea that humanity battles in vain against destiny. The work will be preceded by Brahms Hungarian Dances (Nos 1, 4 and 6) and the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg. A rare pleasure.
“It must be a real treat to sing or play under this sound magician.”
