A New Milestone Reached!

The Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur is very pleased that the City Council of Saint-Sauveur has adopted a resolution in favour of the new Memorandum of Understanding with the FASS.

Following several discussions with the City of Saint-Sauveur, elected officials, and citizens, this protocol constitutes a new agreement for the development of a multi-purpose performance hall to promote arts and culture in the city and in the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut—the largest regional county municipality in Quebec that still lacks a professional cultural infrastructure.

All parties carefully considered the comments on the financial viability and the actual cost that the City would incur for this performance hall. It was possible to adjust the project to respond positively to these concerns and to incorporate a suitable timeline for the next steps. The FASS will now be the owner and manager of the Centre des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, which will include a performance hall as well as a multifunctional space. This will be added to the Chalet Pauline Vanier, with its three large rooms and library, to create a cultural centre that will serve the entire community. The FASS will take responsibility for fundraising for the construction of the Centre des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, and the City of Saint-Sauveur commits to an annual contribution of $150,000 for the operations of the Centre des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, over a period of ten years.

The FASS is now ready to move on to the next phase to encourage provincial and federal governments to invest in the Municipality of Saint-Sauveur and in the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut. The Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur is the largest dance presenter in the country outside major urban centres; with great dynamism and expertise developed over 33 years, it carries this project on behalf of a large community that will benefit from it. The centre will be an attraction for the region, generating beneficial socio-economic impacts and contributing to the sustainability of the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, whose importance to the region is well established.
