Since its emergence in 2010, Israeli band Yemen Blues has played hundreds of shows around the world. Conceived from the vision of charismatic and deep-voiced frontman Ravid Kahalani and featuring the bassist and oud player Omer Avital, Yemen Blues mixes Yemen and West Africa influences with contemporary grooves from funk to mambo and the deep soul of old chants. Contributing to this rich and diverse aural palette are three emerging Montreal choreographers: Vanessa G.R. Montoya, Eva Kolarova and Kyra Jean Green, creating the bridge between music and dance. For FASS audiences, this show promises to be a thrilling escape into new worlds.
“Quite simply, it’s one of the most exciting bands in world music right now.”
