Let the music begin! The Orchestre Métropolitain is returning to Saint-Sauveur this summer, guided for the occasion by the baton of its music director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The orchestra and its maestro have been very busy. One of the music scene’s most sought-after conductors right now, Nézet-Séguin steps into his new role next season as music director of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. The OM embarked on its first European tour last fall to widespread acclaim. For this edition of FASS, the OM will serve up a menu devoted entirely to Tchaikovsky, the composer so well known for his ballet music: La Polonaise, from the opera Eugene Onegin; Orchestral Suite No. 4 Mozartiana; and the intensely dramatic Symphony No. 4, sometimes nicknamed Fate.
“Guided by Nézet-Séguin, the Orchestre Métropolitain clearly transcends its limits, most especially with Debussy’s La Mer. Few conductors, if any, have so fully inhabited this work and expressed it with such intensity.” Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Cologne
